Tall fescue    festuca arundinaceae

Tall fescue is a cool season grass that has proven to be an exceptional performer in Colorado.  The newer cultivars of tall fescue such as those that we grow for fescue sod mix are much finer bladed than original varieties such as K-31.  In fact these new cultivars can even approach Kentucky bluegrass in color and appearance, and surprisingly in texture also.  Tall fescue's greatest attribute is its deep root system which can garner water from depths that most other landscape material cannot touch.   The root system also contain magical fungi that help the plant resist many insects and diseases.  These endophytes play a large role in making tall fescue a resiliant turfgrass.
